Need a place to eat?
I have a goal to eat at every restaurant in New Orleans. Only Orleans Parish restaurants count (if I include Metairie, etc., it would be truly impossible, this is just close to impossible). My last count had about 600 restaurants total – I don’t include chains (except for now and then) and have a semi-rule that to be a restaurant, it has to have more table seats than bar seats. All of this was inspired by Ray Cannata, a pastor who moved to NOLA after Katrina and proceeded to eat at every restaurant in town. The documentary, The Man Who Ate New Orleans, was my primary inspiration to tally these places.
On a side note, I once had one of the largest private collections of Underberg in North America and I am very good at parallel parking.
In the list below, an asterisk means the restaurant is no longer with us - as of October 2, 2023, I have 193 defunct restaurants on my list.
The word on the street is that Magasin has outstanding Vietnamese food. One issue is that I don’t really like Vietnamese all that much – or maybe just haven’t explored it enough to come up with the things that I would like. I checked out this place anyway; lots of soups and unique sandwiches. I don’t really like hot liquid, so soup was out for me. Prices are very reasonable, so if you like Vietnamese, go and check it out.
